26th and 27th October Carrapichana, Celorico da Beira
On the 26th and 27th of October, the parish of Carrapichana will host the Serra da Estrela DOP Lamb Festival, organized in partnership by the municipality of Celorico da Beira and Estrelacoop, with the collaboration of the Carrapichana Parish Council, among other entities.
The event aims to promote Borrego Serra da Estrela DOP, an endogenous product of excellence and one of the most emblematic treasures of the cultural and gastronomic heritage of the municipality of Celorico da Beira and the Serra da Estrela region, as well as to exalt the unique qualities of this meat that enthrone him in Portuguese cuisine and, in particular, in the mountains.
With the aim of promoting, valuing, affirming and consolidating the top position of Borrego Serra da Estrela DOP in the national lamb chain, especially its unique qualities, arising from feeding based on breast milk, such as softness, tenderness, flavor, the color and smell, as well as the different ways of doing it, ranging from the traditional roast and stew to the sophisticated and innovative gourmet, the Organization promotes Gastronomic Week from the 18th to the 27th of October, in participating restaurants throughout the Serra da Estrela Demarcated Cheese and Lamb Production Region.
Also during the Festival, people will have the opportunity to taste and delight in Borrego Serra da Estrela DOP, prepared by the hands and art of Chef’s Rui Cerveira, Paulo Cardoso and MasterChef Sandra, on the event grounds at Espaço Restauração and “ Taste on Fire” and at Oficina Gastronomica with Chef from Celorico, Antonio Santos.
Talking about the Serra da Estrela DOP Lamb Festival is talking about a typical traditional festival, in the Beirao way: entertainment, tradition, culture, fun, conviviality and lots of food and drinks.
With this in mind, the Organization designed a rich and diverse program, for all tastes and ages, with emphasis on concerts by David Antunes (26/10), Miguel Azevedo (27/10), various moments of traditional Portuguese music with national groups and local activities, Folkloric groups, concertinas, street entertainment, children’s entertainment, traditional games, lectures, Livestock Show, in addition to the usual activities such as the Crafts and Regional Products Fair, the lamb auction, workshops, mountain biking and “Rota do Cordeiro” walk.
Over the years, lamb festivals have been held in autumn, in the month of October, at lambing time and when nature displays its dazzling mantle of autumnal tones, making them true festivals of color, joy, smells and incomparable flavors.
